FAQs

Q. What is coaching?

Refer to About Coaching.

Q. Why is coaching different to other modalities such as counselling, consulting, mentoring & training?

With coaching the emphasis is mainly on assisting people to come up with their own solutions rather than give advice. This therefore allows people to learn to take control and responsibility of their own lives and not have to become dependent on someone else for the answers. Coaching helps people to discover that they have the ability within them to come up with their own answers to improve areas of their lives; which importantly provides them with greater self-confidence. The benefits of coaching are more sustainable as the result of this approach.

Coaching is focused on enhancing areas of people’s lives by getting them to be clear on what is wanted in the present and future and implementing actions to achieve it.

Q. Does coaching work for everybody?

Coaching is not right for everyone or for every situation. We suggest that you contact us to discuss if coaching is appropriate for your circumstances.

Coaching works successfully for those people that are committed and willing to take necessary actions to achieve positive change.

Q. Do you only offer coaching to men?

Better Blokes specialises in offering coaching to men, however our coaching service can benefit all people.

Q. What are the channels that I can receive coaching?

The coaching can be delivered to you:

1. face-to-face (individually or in groups);
2. through e-mails;
3. via phone; or
4. on Skype (http://www.skype.com/intl/en-us/get-skype/other-downloads/).

Q. What is the duration of a coaching session?

Coaching sessions will normally last for 1 hour. This duration may vary depending on the nature of the coaching session. We are flexible to meet your needs. For instance, you may want a 30 minute coaching session every week to keep you on track. That is fine. Our objective in delivering the coaching is whatever works best for you. Let us know what your requirements are and we can cater for it.

Q. What is the frequency of coaching sessions?

The frequency of coaching sessions is tailored to meet the needs of each person. As a general rule though coaching normally works best on a fortnightly frequency as it helps to keep the individual on track.

Q. Will information during coaching be treated confidentially?

All information discussed or provided during sessions will be kept strictly confidential.

There are some situations in which the coach is legally obligated to breach confidentiality in order to protect others and yourself from harm. If a client is an imminent risk to him/herself or makes threats of imminent violence against another person; the coach is required to take protective actions and report it to the relevant authority. These situations rarely occur in coaching, but if such a situation does occur; the coach will make every effort to discuss it with the client before taking any action.
